Water Taxi Hollywood Underway This Week

Service Starting a Month Ahead of Schedule

Fort Lauderdale, FL – December 14, 2010 – Water Taxi Hollywood is hitting the waterway December 16th, ahead of the scheduled January 2011 opening.

Boston-based Water Transportation Alternatives (WTA) is the parent company of Water Taxi and Boston's Best Cruises. Water Taxi was purchased by WTA in November of 2007, and the company has expanded considerably over the past three years to include the addition of service to South Beach and Hollywood, as well as adding more boats for the increased demand in capacity.

Water Taxi Hollywood will be a year-round service. Bill Walker, principal, notes, "We saw an increase in ridership this summer, and project that same demand for next summer as well. And you haven't seen South Florida if you haven't seen it from the water." He attributed the rise to the cruise ship schedule and more locals riding the Water Taxi.

"The welcome that we are getting from the city of Hollywood has been tremendous." commented Walker. The boats are landing at two stops along Hollywood's North Ocean Boulevard, Giorgio's Bakery & Bistro and Joe's Tiki Bar, Grill & Sushi.

Walker continued, "We are working closely with those two owners so that Guests may purchase tickets right there as they wait, and feel welcomed as they arrive. It was these types of collaborations that allowed us to move the opening ahead. Now we'll be open during holiday vacation week."

Both stops are a short walk to the Broadwalk, the Johnson Street Trolley hub, or a number of other shopping and dining options. The Grand Opening celebration for the Water Taxi service is scheduled for the weekend of January 7th-9th.

Walker said, "With this expansion of the route, Guests can catch the Water Taxi in Hollywood in the morning, go as far north as Oakland Park Boulevard for lunch, hang out on Las Olas for a while and head back to Hollywood in the evening - all with the same ticket - that's a darn good deal."
