THRILL-SEEKERS FIND ADVENTURES ON THE HIGH SEAS IN
HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA

HOLLYWOOD, FL
- Hollywood is a watersports enthusiast's paradise in the heart of sunny South Florida, where warm waters teeming with marine life satisfy anglers and divers alike all year long.

Whether you're hooked on the excitement of sport fishing or prefer to seek your thrills in the captivating world beneath the sea, a wide range of local services is available to accommodate visitors of all interests and ages, from individuals to families to corporate groups.

Active travelers appreciate the abundance of water activities in Hollywood, including deep-sea, inshore and freshwater fishing, diving and snorkeling, jet skiing, windsurfing, boating, dinner and party cruises, and charter yacht services.

Hollywood enjoys an international reputation as a major sport fishing destination where anglers can choose from heart-pounding, rod-bending offshore encounters with coveted trophy fish in the Atlantic Ocean, or a more relaxed excursion along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway or through the local network of freshwater canals.

The offshore "catch of the day" might include sailfish, marlin, kingfish, grouper, tuna, mahi-mahi, shark or swordfish, which often weigh in at a whopping 600 pounds, according to local authority Capt. Freddie David of Frick and Frack Fishing. Largemouth bass, Spanish mackerel, tarpon, snapper, flounder, amberjack, snook and barracuda are among the many prolific inshore species.

One Hollywood-based charter service offers the rare opportunity to catch and release peacock bass, a colorful freshwater species that is native to the Amazon River basin of South America.

"This is really the only place in the United States where you can fish for them," said Cathy Zaremba of Worldwide Peacock Bass Fishing.

Touted as possibly the most powerful and exciting game fish in the country, the peacock bass attracts avid anglers from all over the U.S. and Canada, many of whom enjoy yearly fishing vacations in Hollywood.

Another unique water-based experience can be found aboard the 40-foot Crack’n Crab, thanks to its relationship with sister business Billy’s Stone Crab Restaurant. Patrons have the option of dining on succulent stone crabs while cruising the picturesque Intracoastal Waterway, or casting their line in the Gulf Stream for mahi-mahi and other sought-after South Florida fare to enjoy back at the popular waterfront eatery.

Hollywood visitors who feel more at home in the water than on it will find all of their undersea adventure needs met at Aquatic Ventures Dive Shop, which offers dive and snorkel trips, scuba instruction, and equipment sales, rental and servicing.

Aquatic Ventures has been a fixture on the local dive scene since 1976, along with its resident expert, Master Dive Instructor Gary Beiter (member PDIC, YMCA, NASDS, PADI). Course offerings include open-water certification, a one-day resort course for beach diving, refresher courses and enriched-air (nitrox) diving, as well as various specialty ratings for advanced divers.

Ideally located between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, Hollywood boasts an enviable year-round climate, six miles of beautiful Blue Wave beaches, a 1,500-acre mangrove preserve and eco-adventure offerings, and a variety of quality lodging accommodations and waterfront restaurants that include dockside dining options.
