SEMINOLE TRIBE PRESENTS BIG CYPRESS SHOOTOUT
Billie Swamp Safari
Friday-Sunday, Feb. 26-28, 2010

Seminole Tribe of Florida will present a reenactment of the Second Seminole War at the Big Cypress Shootout at Billie Swamp Safari located between Fort Lauderdale and Naples, on the Big Cypress Reservation just north of I-75 (Alligator Alley) Exit 49. The battle reenactments honor the Seminole's struggle and sacrifice to remain in their homeland and will feature authentic weapons, soldier and warrior attire and tactics typical of the Second Seminole War. The three-day event will also include music, Seminole food, Seminole and pioneer artisans, tomahawk throws, primitive archery competition, authentic Seminole and soldier camps, venomous snake shows and alligator wrestling. Musical guests include Okefenokee Joe, Benjamin Dehart (The Cracker Tenor) and Cowbone. The battle reenactments will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission: $7 adults, $5 children, CASH ONLY.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE & FESTIVAL
Downtown Hollywood

12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Parade begins at 1:00 p.m.

Downtown Hollywood's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade & Festival will feature Irish folk and rock bands, step dancing, Irish coffee, food and beer from noon to 6 p.m. Sun., March 14 along Hollywood Boulevard west of Young Circle, between 18th and 19th avenues. There is no charge for admission to the festivities, which will include a lively procession including floats, local pipe bands, marching bands and community groups.

HISTORIC HAMMERSTEIN HOUSE TOURS

The house at 1520 Polk Street is shown to the public free of charge by the Hollywood Historical Society. Designed by prominent Hollywood architect Bayard Lukens in 1935 for Vera and Clarence "Ham" Hammerstein, the house is a fine example of the style Lukens called "Tropical Modern."
